The first New Berlin Turtle Derby was held in July 1963, making this year’s event the 63rd Annual New Berlin Turtle Derby.
The winner of that first race was Steve Resseguie of New Berlin, whose first-place prize was a $2 bill—a prize he still proudly has today.
We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the fun, excitement, and nostalgia of the 63rd Annual New Berlin Turtle Derby.
Before participating, please make sure you know your turtle and understand what species are permitted for the race. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulates the possession and handling of native turtles and provides guidance on legal species and requirements.
